After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989, Jack returned to his hometown of Novogrudek.
On his return he found no evidence that Jews had ever lived there. He also found very little evidence of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their accomplices.
Jack decided that the victims of the Nazi invasion should be remembered and set about erecting memorials to those who were murdered.
