The Yiddish Scientific Institute or YIVO is an organisation that preserves, studies, and teaches the cultural history of Jewish life and the Yiddish language. It was founded in Berlin in 1925 and grew to have multiple branches across Europe before the war, until its headquarters were moved to New York in 1940.
