Ante Pavelić

Ante Pavelić

Ante Pavelić (14 July 1889 – 28 December 1959) was the leader of the Ustaše, a far-right, nationalist organisation which governed the Independent State of Croatia between 1941-45. Pavelić and the Ustaša collaborated with the Nazis and acted on their own initiative to murder 30,000 Jews, 25,000-30,000 Roma and over 350,000 Serbs between 1941-1945. After the war, Pavelić fled Croatia and avoided arrest and trial. He died in Madrid, Spain, in 1959 from wounds sustained in an earlier assassination attempt.
