Hermann Pister

Hermann Pister (1885-1948) was an SS officer who joined the Nazi party in 1932. From October 1939, he was commandant of Hinzert concentration camp before replacing Koch as Buchenwald commandant. He was sentenced to death by hanging by the American Military Tribunal at the Buchenwald trial in August 1947. He died of a heart attack in his prison cell in September 1948 before his sentence could be carried out.
