An agency created in 1938 as a result of the Evian Conference to coordinate efforts for refugees attempting to leave Nazi Germany. In 1943, the remit of the IGCR was expanded to coordinate efforts for all European refugees. In 1947, the IGCR was taken over by the newly established International Refugee Organisation.
