The International Refugee Organisation (IRO) was founded on 20 April 1946 to spearhead the international effort to resolve the postwar refugee crisis. It succeeded the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). The IRO was closed on 31 January 1952, following the closure of many of the DP camps.
