Joodse Raad

Joodse Raad

The Jewish Council in the Netherlands that was formed in Amsterdam in 1941. It was disbanded in 1943. The Nazis formed compliant Jewish councils in many places to help administer their Jewish populations. Controversially, the Raad was involved in selecting Dutch Jews for labour camps. In September 1943, the Nazis deported approximately 2,000 Dutch Jews to Westerbork, including the Raad’s leadership.
