A concentration camp established on 1 August 1938 in a stone quarry near Vienna, Austria. Prisoners were made to undertake intensive forced labour. By 1945, approximately 197,000 prisoners had been imprisoned at Mauthausen by the Nazis. At least 95,000 had died.
