Otto Schiff

Otto Schiff (1875-1952) was a German Jew born in Frankfurt. In 1896, Schiff emigrated to Britain where he worked as a partner in a banking firm. Schiff was a prominent philanthropist and humanitarian throughout his life, working extensively with Jewish refugees in the First World War and following the Nazi rise to power. In early 1933, Schiff founded the Jewish Refugees’ Committee (JRC), which helped to arrange for the admission of refugees to Britain as well as their maintenance, training, employment or re-migration.
