A collective term used to describe a group of people who historically emigrated to Europe from northern India approximately one thousand years ago. Roma are often referred to in Britain as Gypsies. The Nazis believed Roma were racially inferior and a threat to the racial strength of the ‘Aryan’ master race. As such, the Nazis and their collaborators extensively persecuted and murdered Roma across occupied Europe.
