A concentration camp near Oranienberg, Berlin established on 12 July 1936. Whilst initially the camp held mainly political prisoners and criminals, it soon expanded to imprison Jews, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses and more. In total, approximately 40,000-50,000 prisoners died at Sachsenhausen over the course of its existence.
