These drawings were made by child survivors of the genocide perpetrated by deposed President Omar al Bashir’s Sudanese government forces and the Janjaweed militia against non-Arab Darfuri people since 2003.

They were obtained in 2007 by the humanitarian charity Waging Peace in a refugee camp in eastern Chad where thousands of Darfuris had fled genocide and mass violence in their home region.

This educational resource for teachers uses the drawings as primary sources to teach students about the genocide and mass atrocity in Sudan in the early 2000s.
